SpaceX’s Starlink is no longer bundling a Wi-Fi router with the flat high-performance (HP) dish, forcing users to pay for the additional hardware.Starlink’s checkout page now says: “Please note Flat HP kits no longer include a router.”Instead, buyers will need to spend an extra $250 on the recently released Gen 3 Wi-Fi router to pair with the high-performance dish. That’s on top of the $2,500 dish price; there’s no price drop for unbundling the router.

The Starlink website doesn’t explain the change; SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Users on Facebook and YouTube first noticed the change. On the plus side, buyers shouldn’t have trouble pairing the flat high-performance dish with a third-party router since it connects to its own power supply, which has an Ethernet cable port. Users who want the bundled router can also consider buying the flat high-performance dish from an authorized SpaceX reseller, such as West Marine, which is still selling the dish with a Gen 2 router for $2,499.

The unbundling occurs as SpaceX has been tweaking prices for its satellite internet service. Last week, the company told some subscribers in the US they’ll have to pay $120 per month for their service, an increase from $90, citing changing capacity limits in their area. SpaceX introduced the flat high-performance dish in 2022; it’s designed to work on the roof of RVs and ships, in addition to supplying satellite internet to businesses. Broadband service for the dish starts at $140 per month.
