The Best Smart Home Security Deals for April 2024

The smart home revolution has allowed us to take control of so many different aspects of our lives, including safety. While the home security systems of the past did nothing but send a signal to an alarm company so they could contact the police, modern smart security incorporates cameras, doorbells, ingress sensors and more into interconnected systems that you can monitor from your phone or other device. With today’s smart homes, it’s cheap and easy to add a camera or two (or more), featuring motion sensing, night vision, AI-powered object and human detection, and more. Right now, we’ve found major discounts on smart security hardware from most of the major manufacturers.

Some security systems require a paid subscription to store and access the videos your cameras record beyond a certain amount of time. Others require a hub unit to control the cameras. Both types typically allow you to access your video feeds in real time via your phone, computer or other smart display. We also like cameras that allow for two-way audio interaction with whoever’s on the other side of the lens, and having a spotlight function is a nice option as well. The main choice you’ll need to make with your smart doorbell is whether or not you need a wired or wireless option; from there, cameras and additional features will vary. Security Camera Deals

These indoor cameras are inexpensive but reliable, and in our review we called the Blink Mini “a fine choice if you want to monitor the inside of your home without spending a bundle.” Capturing 1080p video with motion detection and uploading the footage to the cloud or to a Sync Module (sold separately), they are unobtrusive enough to place anywhere. Two-way microphone and speaker let you use it as an intercom as well, and since it’s an Amazon product it connects effortlessly to Alexa-enabled smart speakers and displays.

Arlo outdoor cameras give you better connectivity without needing to set up a hub. You also get a wider field of view, better camera quality (2K resolution), and they’re rechargeable (instead of requiring non-rechargeable lithium batteries). These also add a spotlight function so you can illuminate things at night while speaking through the camera’s two-way audio function. You do need to pay for a monthly subscription to access recordings, but for viewing in real-time you can stream the feed through Alexa, Google, Apple HomeKit or Samsung’s SmartThings interfaces.

For a few more bucks than the Blinks on this list, Eufy gives you more features and flexibility for your home security setup. They’re rechargeable, for one, and between the full field of view, infrared night vision, and 1080p resolution, the footage you get is pretty detailed. They also deliver smart notifications like motion alerts that can tell the difference between the neighborhood cat and a delivery driver arriving at your doorstep (and with two-way audio you can interact with them as well). This package also includes a home hub for months of video storage with no monthly fee.Video Doorbell Deals

For houses that have Blink cameras and Echo smart displays set up already, this is a simple way to add a low-priced doorbell camera to your coverage. You can hardwire it to an existing doorbell switch or go wireless, making for an easy addition to a home security system. Users can pay a monthly fee to store and access videos in the cloud, but to record video locally you can plug a USB drive into the Sync Module (included with this purchase). Read our full review to learn even more.

This Arlo camera gives you a huge head-to-toe field of view, HD video, two-way audio and no worries about replacing the battery once you get this hard-wired video doorbell installed. The Arlo Foresight system lets you see what happens in the seconds before an alert is triggered, giving you a full view of what’s going on, and the 1:1 aspect ratio is better tailored for use on your phone instead of a fixed smart display. Read our review to learn more.  A subscription to Arlo Secure adds 30 days of cloud recordings in 4K resolution plus some other nice extras like emergency response and smoke/CO detector alarm connectivity.

For the price, this Eufy sits in the sweet spot between the Blink and Arlo hardware. It’s a wired device so there’s a bit of initial setup, but once that’s done users have a camera with 2K resolution and HDR imaging for better images in low-light situations. You also get a 4:3 aspect ratio (not quite the 1:1 of the Arlo, but an improvement over 16:9 when it comes to phone usage). There’s also smart detection zone setup available and pre-set responses can be programmed, but like other Eufy devices, the best part is the lack of a monthly subscription required for full use of the device.Security System Deals

Don’t want to assemble a system piecemeal? This Arlo bundle is by far the best way to secure and monitor your domicile, especially with over $300 off the purchase price. You get a trio of dual-band WiFi indoor/outdoor cameras with 2K resolution and 12x zoom, along with five 8-in-1 sensors that monitor doors and windows for motion as well as carbon dioxide, water leaking, temperature change and even ambient light changes. They all link up to a keypad sensor hub that transmits to the Arlo app on your phone or your smart assistant.

Smart alarm systems are the natural outgrowth of the industry, using a wide network of sensors to collect intrusion data and send alerts to you and outside monitors if they’re breached. This Abode starter kit integrates with just about every smart home platform out there, including Zigbee, Apple Home, and HomeKit, and also accepts voice commands through Alexa and Siri. You get a base hub, a window sensor and a door sensor, and additional components are inexpensive and simple to install. It’s a no-frills system but will get the job done.
