Samsung unveils Next-Gen Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 foldable with Galaxy AI



When it comes to foldable smartphones, Samsung is one of the most reliable brands in the foldable market with its signature Galaxy Z Fold series. South Korean tech giant Samsung, today unveiled its all-new next-generation foldable smartphones at its Unpacked event: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. The latest foldable comes with improved ergonomics and subtle design changes Compared to the last generation foldable, making it Samsung’s best-ever foldable phone. Let’s take a look at the detailed specifications. 

New Galaxy Z Fold 6 with Thinner and Lighter design

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 still boasts the same Galaxy Z Fold series design with some subtle tweaks. Samsung finally managed to reduce the thickness of the Z Fold 6 by 1.4mm and weight by 14 grams, making it more ergonomic, lightweight, and thinner. The new Z Fold 6 measures just 12.1mm thick and weighs 239 grams which matches the OnePlus Open. However, it’s not still in the slimmest foldable category, but it is much better than the last generation foldable. 

In terms of dimensions, the foldable measures 153.3 x 68.1 x 12.1mm when folded and 153.5 x 132.6 x 5.6mm when unfolded. The cover screen is now 1mm wider than before. Samsung incorporated a new dual rail hinge mechanism in the Z Fold 6 smartphone which allows Samsung to reduce the crease and offer a great viewing experience. The device now comes with an IP48 water and dust resistance which is better than the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s IPX8. 

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 features a 6.3-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover display with a dynamic refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz. Inside, you get a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Flex main screen with 2160 x1856 resolution, 120Hz dynamic refresh rate, and 2,600 nits of peak brightness. It has a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on top, protecting it from accidental scratches and falls. 

For lenses, there’s a triple rear camera setup: a 50MP primary camera paired with a 12MP ultrawide shooter and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. On the front, the cover display has a 10MP selfie shooter with an f/2.2 aperture, while the main screen features a 4MP camera. 

Powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship processor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 offers snappy performance and solid multitasking experience. It packs a with 12GB RAAM and up to 1TB storage. It runs on Samsung’s OneUI 6.1.1 based on Android 14 out of the box. You get at least seven years of major OS updates and security patches, which is truly impressive. Underneath, it has a 4,400mAh dual battery with the same 25W wired charging speed as its predecessor. The device also supports 15W wireless and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. 

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 – Better camera, Bigger battery, and more

Samsung also introduced an all-new Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphone alongside its larger Galaxy Z Fold 6 foldable sibling. The latest Galaxy Z Flip 6 comes with meaningful upgrades such as a bigger battery, better camera hardware, handy ergonomic design, and much more. Speaking about dimensions, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is now slimmer, measuring 71.9 x 85.1 x 14.9mm when folded and 71.9 x 165.1 x 6.9mm when unfolded. It weighs 187 grams, making it more or less similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 5. 

The Z Flip 6 has a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED cover display with a 720×748 resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. While you get a stunning 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with 2640 x 1080 resolution and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, ensuring a smoother scrolling experience. It has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner similar to the previous generations. 

Samsung packs a new 50MP primary camera with dual-pixel autofocus and an 85° field of view, paired with a 12MP ultrawide camera with a maximum 123° field of view which remains the same as the previous generation. There is a 10MP front camera with an 85° field of view. You’ll also get Samsung’s signature HDR and Nightography camera features in its latest foldable smartphones. 

The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor paired with 12GB RAM and up to 512GB storage. It houses a 4,000mAh bigger battery, up from the 3,700mAh on the Flip 5. However, it still comes with 25W wired charging support which charges the device up to 50% in about 30 minutes. For software, the device runs on Android 14 based on the OneUI 6.1.1 layer on top. 

Pricing and Availability 

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 starts at $1,900 for the base model with 256GB storage and comes in five color options – Silver Shadow, Pink, Navy, Craft Black, and Purity White. The smartphone is now up for pre-orders while open sales will begin on July 24 via Samsung’s official website and other authorized retailers.
